Welcome to the August 2016 Constanza Student Service Project!

Tim Gibson from Building Legacies International will lead this trip. Building Legacies International facilitates and leads customized legacy service trips for businesses, organizations, schools, and individuals. These unique trips create an environment where participants meet each other, serve together, and return home to make an impact in their own communities. A legacy experience is fertile ground for life transformation; both for your own and those you encounter during the trip.

Serving the Community of Constanza, Dominican Republic

Constanza is a town of about 90,000 inhabitants, located in a hilly area about 150 km from the capital city of Santo Domingo. Because of the good climatic conditions this is a strong agricultural area, however, there are large groups of people living in poverty. The people earn little and live in shacks without water and proper sanitation. Haitians, brought to the Dominican Republic to work on the sugarcane plantations, have an even more difficult time. They are often discriminated against. There are approximately 1,000 Haitian children who roam the streets alone having been abandoned by their parents.

There are many children in Constanza who are not going to school because education is not available to them. The community leaders in Constanza wanted to address this glaring need and asked Lifetouch to help construct a school for the children in the area.

In 2011, working in partnership with Lifetouch and in conjunction with participants from the NAESP, NASSP, and AASA resulted in the construction of the first floor of the Cecaini School. This team also built many lasting friendships in the community. Pastor Angel Moreta and the Constanza community are excited to welcome back their friends from that mission to come serve alongside them again.

Even more students are attending school with the completion of the second floor of Cecaini School thanks to the efforts and hard work of the first DR Reunion Trip in November/December 2012 and the second Lifetouch Memory Mission team in December 2012.

For those of you who were a part of these past trips, you are aware Pastor Angel and the local church are trying to care for different groups within the community.  There are plans to build a kindergarten, vocational training school/center and an experimental farm where people, including drug addicts, can learn and gain vocational experience in agriculture, as well as woodworking, computers and sewing.

In 2013 and 2014, a Constanza DR Reunion team, as well as the third Lifetouch Memory Mission, constructed the first floor of the vocational school to provide the needed training for better jobs and employment opportunities.  They were again joined by educators from NASSP, NAESP, ASA, NPTA, and some private schools.

January 2015 a Lifetouch Memory Mission worked on constructing the second floor of the vocational school and the first Student Service Project completed it and built a basketball court.

In 2016 there will be 3 Student Service Trips focused on a new school in Rio Grande which will be started by a Lifetouch Memory Mission in January 2016.  The April and June Constanza Student Service Projectswill continue the work on the first floor of the new school. The August Student Service Project will begin the construction of a playground for the children of the school and the community.  This school is a part of the CECAINI vision and we will continue to work with Pastor Moreta and his team.  This trip is limited to the first 60 participants who send in their deposit.

We would love to have you join us in this important life transforming opportunity.
