Welcome To The Constanza Reunion Trip 2015!

lifetouch_photo1Constanza is a town of about 90,000 inhabitants, located in a hilly area about 150 km from the capital city of Santo Domingo. Because of the good climatic conditions this is a strong agricultural area, however, there are large groups of people living in poverty. The people earn little and live in shacks without water and proper sanitation. Haitians, brought to the Dominican Republic to work on the sugarcane plantations, have an even more difficult time. They are often discriminated against.  There are approximately 1,000 Haitian children who roam the streets alone having been abandoned by their parents.

lifetouch_photo2There are many children in Constanza who are not going to school because education is not available to them. The community leaders in Constanza wanted to address this glaring need and asked Lifetouch to help construct a school for the children in the area.

In 2011, Lifetouch in conjunction with participants from the NAESP, NASSP, and ASA took a team that constructed the first floor of the Cecani School. This team also built many lasting friendships in the community. Pastor Angel Moreta and the Constanza community were excited to welcome back their friends from that mission to come serve alongside them again.

lifetouch_photo3Even more students are attending school with the completion of the second floor of Cecani School thanks to the efforts and hard work of the Lifetouch DR Reunion Trip November/December 2012 and the second Lifetouch Memory Mission team in December 2012.  For those of you who were a part of these past trips, you are aware Pastor Angel and the local church are trying to care for different groups within the community.  With many young people dropping out of school at the 7th and 8th grade level, there was a great need for vocational and trade school training..

To that end Lifetouch Memory Missions teams made up of volunteers from Lifetouch, NAESP, NASSP, ASA, and NPTA in 2014 and 2015 and a 2014 Reunion Team completed a vocational school where students learn and gain vocational experience inbeauty salons, art and music, sewing, woodcrafts, cooking and service industry, and computer training. This is providing the needed training for better jobs and employment opportunities.

lifetouch_photo4In 2015/2016 we are inviting you to join us in a new project in Constanza building another new school in the Rio Grande community.  Rio Grande is a very poor area with only a one room school available that holds 16 students. Over the next 2-3 years Lifetouch is committed to building a school that will serve several hundred children from Rio Grande and the surrounding area.  We would love to have you, friends, and family join Lifetouch and Building Legacies International with this important life transforming opportunity.
